Sonoita Wine Country
If you think wineries are too snooty, you haven’t been to Arizona Hops and Vines. Nestled in the rolling hills of Sonoita, Megan and Shannon, “crazy awesome sisters,” run this oasis in the desert.
They offer creative blends of wines grown and fermented right on the premises. You’ll want to come for the wine, then stay for the fun! Grape Crush, Oktoberfest, Drag Races and Cupcake Pairings are just a few of the monthly events that keep this joint jumpin’.
Make sure to mark on your calendar, October 6th — they’re hosting their annual Oktoberfest. They’ll have German Style beer from Elgin Brewery, Polka music by the Musikmiesters, and Tucson’s best German Food Station.
The Sonoita wine region was one of the first officially recognized American Viticultural Areas in the country. The altitude, temperatures, water and soil make it ideal for growing wine grapes. There are over a dozen wineries in the area, and plenty of restaurants and lodging. Just an hour south of Tucson, It’s a great weekend getaway.
