Soon, mountain bikers from all over town will have a place to congregate and show off their skills.

The 100 Acre Wood Mountain Bike park, with a recently established an extensive trail system off of Golf Links Road, is adding a new “skills park.”

In addition to the trails, the new park will have bathrooms, a 90-vehicle parking lot, various ramps and jumps as well as a designated area for kids.

City officials, along with local corporate sponsors such as REI, broke ground on the project on Saturday. Several dozen volunteers immediately began clearing the area of trash and debris.

The $2.5 million project is being funded through donations from both private and corporate donors, working to get more people outdoors.

The estimated completion date is set for later this year.
