Making art exciting
Flame Off 2019 combines the perfect elements for a fun, exciting Friday night. Here’s the recipe:
- Jets of flame
- Molten glass
- Cheering crowds
- 18 world class glass artists
- “Iron Chef” style competition
- Food and drink
- A good cause
This year there is an expanded raffle and there are more female competitors than ever before in the event’s history. At the Flame Off, the public watches live as 18 glass artists use molten glass to complete the best masterpiece in a short time frame. Tickets are $20 and proceeds support Sonoran Glass School’s nonprofit educational programs. The event takes place from 7-11PM and will be located in a large tent at 633 W 18th Street. Complete information at sonoranglass.org/flameoff.
THE COMPETITION: Torchworking glass artists from around the national and world have applied to be in the competition and will compete in one of two rounds during the evening. Each round is 90 minutes. Artists are tasked with making a piece inspired by the theme: “(Un)Natural World.” Spectators will get to watch the action in person, with close-ups of the detailed work streamed live on large HD screens.
Sonoran Glass School is a public-access educational organization dedicated to inspiring people of all ages to discover the wonder of glass art.
We teach students and the general public how to create and appreciate glass as a visual arts medium through educational courses, one-on-one experiences, visiting artist seminars, and community events funded by SGS members and supporters.
