Inside Artifact Dance Project and their retelling of David, Goliath

Artifact Dance Project is bringing the story of David and Goliath to life through dance.

The biblical story of David and Goliath has been told time and time again, but never like what Tucson’s Artifact Dance Project has done.

Going on a decade of performances in the Tucson area, Artifact is now using the power of modern dance to bring the characters into a new and unique setting.

Choreographer Ashley Bowman’s retelling creates “a Goliath for our times, a lonely anti-hero wandering confused in a dying world, seeking his purpose.”

The production also revolves around the music of composer Zack Hemsey, who is most widely known for his song “Mind Heist” in the film Inception.

AZ Weekend stopped by the dance company’s rehearsal and talked to Bowman about her choreography. See the full interview in the video above.
