Apple Cider Recipe From Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley

The folks for Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley came by the studio to talk about their Octoberfest festival as well as their words of advice for making the perfect Homemade Hot Apple Cider. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients for cider:

  • 2 quarts apple juice or apple cider
  • 2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice- about 8 oranges **
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves or 6 whole cloves

Garnish For Cups:

  • 8 orange slices-2 oranges
  • 8 cinnamon sticks


Take all ingredients for cider and put in 4 quart pot.  Bring to a hard boil for 5 minutes, then let sit for 15 minutes to allow all spices to release their flavors.

Take one orange slice and one cinnamon stick and put in cup, then fill with your cider.  You can transfer the cider to a crock pot and leave on low for serving later that day.  You can also garnish your serving dish with slices of oranges to spruce it up.

This cider is also outstanding when mixed with red wine.  You would do equal parts of wine and cider for this hot spiced wine beverage.  You would still garnish the cup with the cinnamon stick and the orange slice for this spiced cider.

**If you choose to not use fresh squeezed orange juice and use a concentrated mix or bottled juice, you will want to reduce the amount of sugar by half.
