MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Did you know you can find blue water, white sand and crashing waves right here in Arizona?
Revel Surf at Cannon Beach in Mesa is your new place to check out surfing.
“We brought a little bit of California to Arizona,” Revel Surf co-owner Cole Cannon said. “We’re super happy about that. This is not just a place for hardcore surfers; it’s a place for everybody.”
Cannon and fellow co-owner Matt Gunn are two of the guys behind the project, which took five years and $45 million to develop.
“Everybody can come and enjoy, right? Whether you’re a surfer or a beachgoer and hang out and watch, there is something for everybody,” Gunn said.

Arizona’s Family got a behind-the-scenes look at what the stunning 37-acre property has to offer.

Once you get dressed in a wetsuit, it’s time to prep and learn the basics before practicing in the 16-foot deep pool.
Simone did a couple of stretches; then it was time to hop into the pool. It took a couple of tries, but eventually, she got the hang of it!
After the pool, we walked over to hit the lagoon to check out the one-of-a-kind, patented wave technology.
As it turns out, surfing is a lot like life. You get knocked down, but you just keep going. It’s an analogy that’s certainly fitting for Cannon and Gunn, who said they pitched the idea to 94 banks before finally finding investors.

They said Revel now joins the ranks of only two other similar public facilities in the entire U.S.
