PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — “The Boss” is back in Arizona for the first time since 2016 as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off their 2024 world tour at the Footprint Center on Tuesday.

Known for timeless hits like “Born in the U.S.A” and “Dancing In the Dark”, fans from Texas and California were part of the people in the crowd.

“It’s like going to church. It’s gospel,” said Mark Patton. “This will be my 13th time seeing him, and he’s worth every bit of the money you pay,” added Todd Godan.

During his concerts, Springsteen supports a local charity, typically a food bank; this year, it’s St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix.

It’s the fourth time in the last 15 years Springsteen has teamed up with St. Mary’s when the rocker has put on a show in Phoenix. Tuesday had a goal to raise between $20,000-$30,000.

“What separates Bruce from the others is on stage he talks about the food bank and asks people to make a donation on the way out. It really connects with his fans and his fans know that each tour stop that they’re going to be asked to do that. And the response that we get from the fans walking out in donations and saying good things about the food bank, that’s what separates the Springsteen fans from all the other fans,” said St. Mary’s Food Bank Director of Public Relations Jerry Brown.

For each dollar donated, St. Mary’s is able to provide up to five meals for someone in need. If you missed the concert and want to donate, click here.
