Latin Grammy Award Winners Flor de Toloache perform at the Fox Theatre

Founded in 2008, Latin Grammy® winning, New York-based all-female ensemble Flor de Toloache continues to win the hearts of both progressive and traditional mariachi music fans alike through their distinct artistic vision and sophisticated, enlightened interpretation of traditional mariachi instruments. Make sure you don’t miss their performance at the Fox Theatre, November 23 at 7:30pm

The group is led by co-band directors Mireya I. Ramos on violin and Shae Fiol on vihuela. Together, they have graced international stages from Chennai, India to Paris, France and have extensively toured the U.S. as supporting act for Dan Auerbach’s (The Black Keys) new project The Arcs, as well as Cafe Tacvba, La Santa Cecilia, and Natalia Lafourcade.

The members hail from diverse cultural backgrounds such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia, Germany, Italy, and the United States. This defines their unique flavor and sound. The result of this cultural bouquet is an edgy, versatile, and fresh take on traditional Mexican music.

“Not only a prime example of mariachi itself, but how this group of mujeres makes the genre accessible to all.” – NPR : The 200 Greatest Songs By 21st Century Women+

Opening for Flor de Toloache are the Villalobos Brothers. They were the first Mexican band ever to play at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC, as featured guest artists, adding this historic venue to an already impressive list of credits that includes the Latin Grammy Awards, Carnegie Hall, the Guggenheim Museum, Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations, Rockefeller Center, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and more.

Their original compositions and arrangements masterfully blend and celebrate the richness of Mexican folk music with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music, rightfully earning them the reputation of being one of today’s leading contemporary Mexican ensembles. The Villalobos Brothers deliver an intoxicating brew of brilliance, cadence, and virtuosity that awaken the senses and mesmerize the listener.
